I'm a keyboardist

Hi,

I have just found Jammr. I am an experienced keyboard player and enjoy every genre of music. Rock, blues, jazz, country etc.

Could someone tell me what to do. I've downloaded Jammr to my computer. Do I just plug in or do I have to arrange to meet other musicians online?

Thanks everyone,

Becky

Hi Becky,
Welcome to jammr! There are usually other users already online that you can jam with. If no one else is jamming when you start jammr it's best to join an empty jam session and stay online for a few minutes - chances are someone else will join!

You can see if other users are online easily by going to https://jammr.net/ and looking in the top right corner:

Have you recorded using your computer before? Using your keyboard with jammr is similar to recording on your computer.

There are two ways to connect a keyboard to a computer:

1. Your keyboard has USB audio or a Headphone/Line Out/XLR output that you connect to your computer's sound card (Mic in/Line In/XLR In jack). Your keyboard is producing the audio and the computer just captures the audio. Here is a tutorial that explains this:

2. Your keyboard has USB MIDI or a MIDI Out that you connect to your sound card's MIDI In jack. In this case MIDI messages (the notes you play on the keyboard) are sent to the computer. You need to load a virtual instrument (piano, synthesizer, or sampler) VST plugin in jammr to turn those MIDI messages into audio. Here is a tutorial that explains this with the REAPER digital audio workstation software:

If you want to know more about the pros/cons of audio compared to MIDI, check out this video:

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Take care if there is a private or public jam… (look at the title of the jam in app). Only public jams are counted!

I like ukulele, recorder, guitar, drum, piano (absolute beginner)
