Using IRs instead of the built in cabinet modelling is also popular for the Line 6 POD series. I've used OwnHammer impulses together with the S-Gear amp sim to get great tones in the past.

Seriously. Ping pong delay is my favorite. i was choked when i realized it mixes down to mono before sending haha
