Previously a Linux, OSX Only DAW But now available for windows,
Well technically its not free as it requires a min donation on $1.

Audacity®
A Nice Little Program that is great for capturing Audio and converting all those old vinyl records to digital
mp3

MuLab
A Full Featured DAW with VST Support But only 4 Tracks Allowed but good enough to jam with

Hope this helps some of you get those idea out of your heads and reordered for prosperity.
