I just joined today also. But I cannot figure out how to start a jam session whether it be private or public…

I just joined today also. I am having trouble getting started. I am able to connect to public jams, but I don's see any chord progression posted, so I don't know how to join in. I can hear a bass and guitar playing. Also, i dont hear my own guitar over the computer so I don't know if my connection is working. I am really confused. Is there a step by step tutorial for newcomers?
