Hellhounds are one of the most commonly blocked tasks for high-level players, and for good reason. They are single-target,have no notable drops (outside of the rare clue scroll or Smouldering Stone),and are not particularly fast to RuneScape gold kill. While the Cerberus Slayer boss does drop valuable crystals like the Primordial,Pegasian, and Eternal,it's not a viable XP source — it's a money-making boss.
For XP-focused players,Hellhounds are a drain on time and resources. Plus, their high task weight means you'll see them assigned often unless you block them.
Cave Krakens
Like Hellhounds,Cave Krakens have a very high task weight and show up frequently. Unfortunately, they can't be killed efficiently with melee or ranged weapons — you're forced to use magic, and even then,it's single-target only.
Despite the chance at a Kraken Tentacle or Trident of the Seas, the Kraken is painfully slow XP and not worth the time investment if you're chasing 99 Slayer. The block list is ideal for high-weight,low-XP monsters like these.
Black Dragons
Black Dragons are tanky, slow to kill, and logistically annoying. You'll need either a Dragonfire shield or Antifire Potions, and ideally a Dragon Hunter Lance for efficient kills — not a cheap investment for a Slayer-only task.
Duradel typically assigns them in very small amounts (10-20),which contradicts our goal of doing high-volume,high-XP tasks in safe spots or cannon-friendly areas. Sure, the bones are good for Prayer XP,but overall,Black Dragons just don't contribute meaningfully to Slayer XP gains.
Greater Demons & Black Demons
Greater Demons Task Weight: 9
Black Demons Task Weight: 8
These two should almost always be blocked for similar reasons. They are single-target,have a poor drop table, and are often found in crowded spots where other players may crash or compete for kills.
They also take a while to kill and are frequently assigned in large quantities — sometimes 130 to 200 at a time. This leads to long, tedious tasks with little reward. If you're an Ironman, they might be more useful for grinding out demon-specific drops or farming shards, but for the average player, these are massive XP sinks.
Spiritual Creatures
Task Weight: 7
Spiritual Creatures might not show up constantly, but when they do,it's often one of the least enjoyable tasks in the game. Found in the God Wars Dungeon, these mobs are annoying to access and often require god-aligned gear to avoid being swarmed by other enemies.
Their loot is poor, they're generally a waste of time, and unless you're hunting Dragon Boots from Spiritual Mages, there's no reason to ever keep this task unblocked. These were the first creatures I personally blocked, and I've never looked back.
Steel Dragons (and other Metal Dragons)
Task Weight: 7
Steel Dragons — and by extension, all metal dragons like Iron or Mithril Dragons — are slow, defensive, and dangerous. You'll need high protection prayers
Steel Dragons (and other Metal Dragons)
Task Weight: 7
Steel Dragons — and by extension, all metal dragons like Iron or Mithril Dragons — are slow, defensive, and dangerous. You'll need high protection prayers and decent gear to kill them efficiently, and even then, the loot is underwhelming compared to the effort.
Recently,Steel Dragons became weak to Earth Spells due to Project Rebalance, but it hasn't significantly improved XP rates. These tasks often require multiple trips due to their durability and strong dragonfire attacks, which is the opposite of efficient.
If you're thinking about unlocking Mithril Dragons as a Slayer option: don't. They're even slower than Steel Dragons and arguably more frustrating.
What Should You Do Instead?
To get the most out of your Slayer journey, aim for tasks that allow for multi-target combat using Ice Burst,Ice Barrage,or a Dwarf Multicannon. Tasks that fall into this category include:
Dust Devils: Can be extended and barraged in the Catacombs for fast XP and solid drops.
Nechryaels: Also great for multi-targeting with Ice spells, and have very profitable loot tables.
Smoke Devils: Can be burst with magic and are less crowded.
Bloodvelds (Mutated): Good for cannoning in multi-combat areas.
These tasks not only give great XP but also tend to pay for themselves through valuable alchables and rune drops. Make use of task extensions from your Slayer Master to buy Runescape gold maximize your time on these profitable,high-XP creatures.
